Assistant with PhD – Sustainable Construction, Building Energy Efficiency, and Environmental Assessment of the Built Environment University of Ljubljana in Slovenia

The University of Ljubljana is advertising a part-time, fixed-term research and academic position linked to the GreenHer Centre of Excellence and funded through the Horizon Europe framework. The post is titled Assistant with PhD – Sustainable Construction, Building Energy Efficiency, and Environmental Assessment of the Built Environment and is based in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The successful candidate will work at the Rectorate / GreenHer CoE, with a work location at the NUK Unit (Turjaška ulica 1, 1000 Ljubljana). The appointment is for 20 hours per week and is fixed until 31 January 2032 due to project funding. The expected start date is 1 November 2026.

This role is strongly research-oriented and combines scientific research, professional reporting, and teaching support. The appointed researcher will independently conduct research and development in building energy efficiency, HVAC systems, sustainable construction, and life cycle assessment (LCA). The work also includes numerical modelling, computer simulation, evaluation of the energy and environmental performance of buildings and technical systems, microclimate modelling, hygrothermal performance of building envelopes, indoor environmental quality, and the interaction between building envelopes and HVAC systems.

Additional responsibilities include preparing expert opinions, technical assessments, reports, and proposals; assessing compliance and environmental performance of construction products; contributing to project acquisition and management; and helping develop operational tools, methodological guidelines, and recommendations for the sustainable management of cultural heritage. The role also involves dissemination through publications, reports, handbooks, conference presentations, and communication with the public and media.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant technical field such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, building physics, energy engineering, or environmental engineering. A valid title of Research Assistant or Assistant is required, or it must be obtained within four months of employment. Professional English and good Slovenian are required, along with at least one year of relevant experience. The employer particularly welcomes experience in R&D projects, research leadership, multidisciplinary teamwork, conference presentations, and project proposal writing.

Funding information indicates a salary placed at the initial 31st salary grade, amounting to EUR 3,070.93 gross, with gradual elimination of pay disparities until 2028.
