About this position

LUT University is recruiting a post-doctoral researcher in Building Services to join the LUT School of Energy Systems at the Lahti campus in Finland. The role sits within the new and growing LUT Civil Engineering team and focuses on research that combines sustainable building usage, occupant safety and well-being, and efficient use of energy in buildings.

The work is part of a transdisciplinary research agenda on the sustainability and energy transformation of buildings. Key themes include demand-control, system energy efficiency, real-life energy saving potential related to building use, and the relationships between building operation, indoor environmental quality, and user satisfaction. The successful candidate will contribute to high-performance, future-resilient, user-oriented, sustainable buildings.

You will work in the Building Services research group and collaborate closely with the wider research team. The position includes publishing research results, contributing to research funding proposals, working with national and international partners, and participating in group meetings, conferences, and seminars. The role also includes supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses and participation in teaching.

The university is looking for a researcher with a doctoral degree in building services engineering (HVAC and automation) or a related field. Strong independent research ability, teaching skills, and sound analytical and problem-solving abilities are expected. The team welcomes both experienced post-doctoral researchers and early-career applicants, including recent doctoral graduates. Experience with or interest in computational and experimental methods for analysing system performance, room airflow patterns, thermal conditions, and indoor air quality is important. Experience in or collaboration with the building services industry is an advantage. Excellent English is required; Finnish is an asset.

The appointment is initially for two years, with a six-month trial period, and may be extended by up to two additional years based on performance and progress. The position is part of LUT University’s non-tenure track system. Work is based at LUT’s Lahti campus, with a hybrid model and regular on-campus presence. The expected start is as soon as possible, preferably in November 2026, and the start date is negotiable.

Compensation follows the Finnish university pay system for teaching and research staff (requirement levels 5–6). The starting salary is approximately EUR 4,300–5,000 per month, depending on qualifications and experience.
