Everyday we have to invest cognitive effort to complete tasks successfully. Cognitive effort is a dynamic proces. First, we have to be willing to invest the required amount of effort and consequently we should translate this willingness into the actual allocation of cognitive resources. Within this project, we will use EEG and pupillometry to gain insights into the dynamics of cognitive effort. This will initially be done in neurotypical student populations, but later extensions to ADHD are planned as well. Individuals with ADHD often show difficulties with effort investment, however it is unclear whether this is due to altered motivation (willingness) or inability.
The project will be hosted at the Department of Experimental Psychology and Department of Experimental Clinical and Health Psychology of Ghent University, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nico Boehler and Prof. Dr. Roeljan Wiersema.
Interested candidates need to hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field, and to be available soon. Experience with EEG, pupillometry and ADHD is welcome but not required. The application deadline is Jan-26 (midnight), and the aspired-for starting date is March-01, 2025. Ghent offers an exciting environment and high standards of living. Scholarship: approx. €2600,- net/month.
Candidates should send their applications (containing a CV, certificate of their academic degrees, and short motivation letter) to [email protected] . For further inquiries about this position, please contact [email protected] or [email protected] .
