Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a leading model for studying tumour evolution due to its structured and constrained genomic progression. This PhD project at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, under the supervision of Dr Samra Turajlić, leverages ccRCC to address fundamental questions in cancer biology, including the selection of specific genetic alterations, their impact on tumour–immune interactions, and the identification of therapeutic vulnerabilities through evolutionary trajectories.
The project focuses on recurrent aneuploidy, with ccRCC typically initiated by loss of chromosome 3(p) and subsequent losses of chromosomes 9(p) and 14(q) linked to metastatic progression.
