About this position
Technical University of Munich (TUM) is recruiting a doctoral candidate for the MSCA Doctoral Network EMANAIRE (Empowering Human Agency in AI-Augmented Futures of Work). The project studies how generative AI and agentic AI are changing work, communication, and human agency in knowledge-intensive professions.
The doctoral project focuses on human-machine communication and human-AI interaction in everyday professional practice. It examines how workers in fields such as law, academia, consulting, and journalism prompt, edit, refine, correct, and contextualize AI outputs, and how AI systems in turn influence attention, decisions, workflows, and expertise. The research also looks at adaptation over time, the hidden labor of making AI work in practice, and the implications for transparent, fair, and accountable AI governance.
The position is hosted at TUM, School of Medicine and Health and School of Social Sciences and Technology, with supervision by Prof. Sandra Cortesi. Depending on the project focus, co-supervision may involve Prof. Christian Fieseler, Prof. Urs Gasser, Prof. Christoph Lutz, and Prof. Gemma Newlands. The network includes 15 doctoral candidates across nine European universities, with training, residential schools, methods workshops, seminars, and a planned six-month intersectoral secondment.
This is a fully funded 36-month doctoral employment contract in Munich, Germany. The gross monthly salary is approximately €3,800 before taxes and social security contributions, including the MSCA mobility allowance; an additional family allowance may be available for eligible candidates.
