About this position
Technical University of Munich (TUM) is recruiting a doctoral researcher for the MSCA Doctoral Network EMANAIRE (Empowering Human Agency in AI-Augmented Futures of Work). The project studies how AI is changing work, human agency, and professional learning, with a specific focus on human–AI collaboration, co-agency, and the skills young professionals need to work effectively with generative AI.
The doctoral project will examine how people learn to divide tasks and responsibilities between themselves and AI, assess AI contributions, detect errors, decide when human judgment should take precedence, and maintain autonomy over time. The research may use surveys, scenario-based tasks, behavioral experiments, interviews, and observational approaches, and the exact research questions will be developed with the supervisory team.
This is a fully funded 36-month doctoral position in Munich, Germany, with a full-time employment contract (40 hours/week), social security, health insurance, and pension contributions. The gross monthly salary is approximately €3,800 before taxes and social security, including the MSCA mobility allowance; an additional family allowance may be available for eligible candidates. Around 25% of the role is dedicated to teaching and career-development activities.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent by the start date, have professional working proficiency in English, be willing to travel for network activities and a six-month intersectoral secondment, and satisfy MSCA mobility rules. German is not required. Applicants must not already hold a PhD and must be able to enroll in the TUM doctoral program.
Supervision at TUM is by Prof. Sandra Cortesi, with possible co-supervision from Prof. Christian Fieseler, Prof. Urs Gasser, Prof. Christoph Lutz, and Prof. Gemma Newlands depending on the project focus. The position is based on site in Munich, with teleworking not permitted.
How to apply: submit the online application form by 2026-11-01. Include a CV, degree certificates and transcripts, a short research proposal (max 2 pages), and contact details for two referees.
