About this position
Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden is advertising two Doctoral positions in fabrication and design of superconducting quantum processors within the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT) and the Quantum Technology Laboratory (QTL) at the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2).
The project sits in experimental quantum computing and focuses on two main research directions: nanofabrication of superconducting quantum devices and design/microwave simulation of quantum processors. Students will work in a large interdisciplinary team of PhDs, postdocs, researchers, experimentalists, theorists, and engineers, with access to world-class nanofabrication facilities.
Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree in Physics, Applied Physics, or Nanotechnology is required (or, for students educated outside Sweden, a 4-year Bachelor’s degree is accepted). Strong English communication skills are mandatory. Prior experience in superconducting circuits, experimental quantum computing, quantum optics, nanofabrication, microwave measurements, cryogenics, or microwave simulations is advantageous.
Funding: the positions are fully funded from the start. The appointment is fixed-term for four years, with teaching duties up to 20% potentially extending the employment to five years. The starting salary is 35,725 SEK per month (from May 1, 2026).
Application: submit the application in English via the online form on the vacancy page. Required documents include a CV, personal letter, brief introduction, motivation, preferred project choice, and bachelor’s/master’s thesis documents with transcripts. Incomplete applications and email submissions will not be considered.
Deadline: 5 November 2026. Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis, so early application is encouraged.
