The broader context is the environmental stability of biochar and the release of organic pollutants and heavy metals from biochar produced from municipal waste streams.

Applicants should have an above-average M.Sc. or equivalent in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biogeosciences, Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field. Experience with DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, sequencing methods, and basic bioinformatics in R, Python, or related pipelines is expected. Strong English skills and an interest in interdisciplinary research at the interface of microbiology, geochemistry, and environmental sciences are important. German knowledge and a Category B driving licence are desirable.

The position is fixed-term for 3 years and paid at salary group 13 (75%) under TVöD Bund (Tarifgebiet Ost). The workplace is Potsdam. Applications must be submitted online only by 2026-08-31.
