About this position
The University of Turku’s Department of Computing at the Faculty of Technology is offering a full-time Doctoral Researcher position in Secure Generative AI. This position is part of a high-impact Horizon Europe research project, focusing on privacy protection, security enhancement, and vulnerability research in Generative AI. The research will emphasize quantum-secure, federated GenAI frameworks, integrating advanced privacy-preserving techniques such as Federated Learning, Differential Privacy, and post-quantum cryptographic primitives. The successful candidate will develop robust defense mechanisms against adversarial threats and contribute to verifiable secure machine learning solutions.
As a doctoral researcher, you will design, develop, and implement state-of-the-art, post-quantum secure GenAI protocols and algorithms, collaborating with leading academic experts and industrial security architects across Europe. Responsibilities include project implementation, reporting, supervising MSc and Bachelor students, assisting in teaching, and engaging in training opportunities such as proposal writing and scientific publishing. The position offers opportunities to publish in top-tier cybersecurity journals and conferences, collaborate with outstanding European universities and industrial partners, and participate in a vibrant, international research community.
Applicants must hold an MSc degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a strong foundation in cybersecurity and adversarial machine learning. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency in English (with a valid certificate such as IELTS or TOEFL), and programming skills (Python, C++, Rust) are required. Candidates must have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at University of Turku and demonstrate the capacity for postgraduate studies. In exceptional cases, candidates who have nearly completed a master's degree may be considered for a research assistant position.
The position is fully funded, with a salary for doctoral/project researchers averaging 2500–2700 euros/month, and research assistants starting at 2400 euros/month, depending on experience and qualifications. A six-month trial period applies. The University of Turku offers a supportive and international research environment, flexible working hours, well-being services, and orientation for international hires. The institution is recognized for its commitment to researcher development and high-quality research infrastructures.
To apply, submit your application via the online recruitment system by 17 August 2026. Required documents include a motivation letter, research plan, CV, list of publications (if any), degree certificates, and other relevant documents such as awards or English proficiency certificates. For further information, contact Associate Professor Kaitai Liang ([email protected]) or HR Specialist Nina Reini ([email protected]). The position will be filled if the project is implemented, and the University of Turku reserves the right to modify the application process as needed.
Join the University of Turku for your doctoral studies and contribute to cutting-edge research in Secure GenAI within a dynamic and multidisciplinary academic community.
