About this position
Université du Luxembourg is advertising a Doctoral Researcher in Smart Energy System Modelling within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the FINATRAX research group. The project is part of the Data-Driven Energy Transition NCER Project (D2ET), which focuses on accelerating the energy transition in Luxembourg through data-driven decision-making, scenario analysis, and strategic planning for an optimal energy system.
The successful candidate will design and implement an advanced international energy system model with a focus on energy economics, stochastic optimization, renewable energy system modelling, policy analysis, and technology evaluation. The work is intended to support research and development at Finatrax and contribute to shaping the energy transition in Luxembourg and Europe. Results are expected to be published in leading international outlets.
Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree in Energy Policy, Energy Economics, Information Systems, Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related field; strong quantitative/computational research skills; proficiency in Python or another major programming language; and at least B2-level proficiency in the language of the thesis.
Funding and contract: full-time fixed-term doctoral contract for 36 months, extendable up to 48 months if needed. The yearly gross salary is EUR 41,976 (full time).
