About this position

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Renewable Energy Transitions and Solar PV Modelling at Adelaide University, Australia.

This part-time (0.8 FTE), 24-month fixed-term research role sits in the College of Engineering and Information Technology and the School of Civil Engineering and Construction. The project focuses on renewable energy transitions, especially the economic, environmental, and technical performance of solar photovoltaic (solar PV) and other renewable-energy technologies in urban contexts.

The research uses interdisciplinary methods including integrated assessment modelling, material-flow analysis, and life-cycle assessment, alongside robust workflows for large and complex datasets. The post also examines climate and weather hazards, infrastructure vulnerability, energy-system reliability, and how extreme events and long-term climate change affect solar electricity generation and energy demand.

Applicants should hold a PhD in environmental economics, energy economics, resource economics, human geography, industrial ecology, or a related field. Strong quantitative and programming skills are required, preferably in Python, together with experience in modelling, data analysis, and working with heterogeneous datasets such as climate projections, electricity infrastructure records, solar-resource data, geospatial data, and economic input-output tables.

The role reports to Associate Professor Ruidong Chang. The advertisement states a salary of $103,962-$111,384 per annum pro rata, plus 17% superannuation.

To apply, click the Apply Now button, upload a CV and cover letter, and complete the online application form addressing the selection criteria. The deadline is 11:30pm Sunday 16 August 2026.
