The University of Luxembourg is offering a Doctoral Researcher in Social Sciences position within the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) and the Department of Education and Social Work. This PhD opportunity is tied to the new BODYLINES project, a funded research initiative that examines how patients, donors, and their families experience transplantation processes, with particular attention to the role of structural inequalities, gender, caregiving obligations, and cross-border care.

The project adopts a gender-sensitive, intersectional, and phenomenological perspective to study how people navigate organ donation and transplantation across social, geographical, and institutional borders. The position is embedded in a multilingual and interdisciplinary research environment at the University of Luxembourg, an international research university with strong links to society, professional sectors, and European research networks.

The doctoral researcher will conduct original research on organ donation and transplantation from a gender perspective, organize field access to patients, donors, and families, and collaborate closely with project stakeholders, including the advisory board, medical professionals, colleagues, and the PI team. Additional responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data, co-authoring and authoring scientific articles and policy briefs, presenting research at international conferences, and helping organize project-related events.

The role is suited to candidates with a master's degree or equivalent in Social Sciences or a related field such as anthropology or human geography. Applicants should have experience with qualitative research approaches and a strong interest in gender studies, health and well-being, and gender issues more broadly. Excellent organizational and communication skills are expected, alongside an autonomous working style.

Language requirements are important: English at C1 level is required, while French or German at B2 level is considered an asset. Applicants must also demonstrate at least B2 proficiency in the language of the thesis, following the university's doctoral admission rules.

This is a fixed-term, full-time doctoral contract of 36 months and is based at the Belval Campus in Luxembourg.
