About this position

Applications are invited for a fixed-term doctoral researcher position in the Turku Doctoral Programme of Molecular Medicine (TuDMM) at the University of Turku, Finland. The position is funded by the University of Turku Graduate School (UTUGS) and is designed for full-time doctoral research and doctoral studies in a highly international and multidisciplinary research environment.

TuDMM is based in the Faculty of Medicine and offers comprehensive training in molecular medicine, with strong links to bio- and clinical medicine. The programme’s research areas include cancer research, endocrinology and metabolism, immunology, microbiology, and connective tissue research. The doctoral training emphasizes understanding disease mechanisms at the molecular level, translational research, interpretation of research data, modern research methods, and communication of research to both scientific and public audiences.

The appointment starts on 1 January 2027, or by agreement during 2027, and may be granted for up to four years, depending on the stage of the doctoral degree and any previous doctoral funding. In some cases, shorter one-year funding periods are available for researchers in the final phase of their studies who aim to submit their dissertation for pre-examination during 2027. The role requires working in Turku, Finland, although flexible working arrangements may be considered for justified reasons.

Applicants must have an active study right for a doctoral degree at the University of Turku, Faculty of Medicine, in TuDMM, or apply for doctoral study rights concurrently through Studyinfo/Opintopolku if they do not yet have the right. Applicants should be pursuing or planning to pursue their first doctoral degree, must not have already received four years of full-time doctoral funding, and must submit a feasible research plan prepared together with an experienced supervisor affiliated with the University of Turku. A person who already holds a doctoral degree is not eligible.

The salary is based on the University of Turku teaching and research staff system and is approximately €2,400 to €3,300 per month, depending on the stage of the doctoral degree, experience, and skills. The position is supported by a personal supervisor and the broader UTUGS doctoral community, with access to doctoral training, research networks, and university support services.

The application window runs from 25 August 2026 to 8 September 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Helsinki). Applications must be submitted in the TalentAdore recruitment system, with all mandatory attachments in PDF format: CV, research plan, doctoral dissertation implementation and completion plan, motivation letter, and degree certificates/transcripts. If study rights have not yet been granted, a separate application through Studyinfo/Opintopolku is required. Selection is based on academic and research merits, motivation, potential, the quality and feasibility of the research plan, and interview performance.
