About this position
LUT University is recruiting three doctoral researchers in Construction Business to join the newly established LUT Civil Engineering team within the LUT School of Energy Systems in Lahti, Finland. The positions focus on how the green transition and digital twin transition are reshaping society, business, and the real estate and construction sector.
The doctoral researchers will work in the Construction Business research group on transdisciplinary topics such as life cycle assessment and management of built assets, national building stock inventory and scenarios, and business model innovation in real estate and construction. The work is designed for candidates interested in combining construction, economics, management, sustainability, and emerging digital approaches with a strong societal impact.
As a doctoral researcher, your main goal will be to complete a doctoral degree at LUT Doctoral School. This includes conducting and documenting research, publishing peer-reviewed scientific articles, presenting at conferences and seminars, and completing the required doctoral studies. The role also includes teaching and assisting with teaching at bachelor’s and master’s level, and supporting project or research group administration. Occasional travel may be required for conferences and seminars.
The university is looking for candidates with a relevant master’s degree and a background related to construction economics and management, real estate economics, industrial engineering and management, or a related field. Strong academic writing skills, analytical and problem-solving ability, and motivation to contribute to scientific publications are important. Experience with life cycle assessment is especially valued, and experience in business model innovation, real estate development, or construction processes is considered an advantage. Excellent English is required, while Finnish is an advantage. Applicants should be comfortable working in an evolving environment.
The employment starts with a one-year contract and may be extended by three years if progress in research and doctoral studies is satisfactory. The starting salary is approximately EUR 3,100 per month, depending on experience and qualifications. The position is based at LUT’s Lahti campus with a hybrid work model and flexible hours.
Applications must be submitted online by 4 October 2026 at 23:59 Finnish local time.
