About this position

The Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD) is inviting applications for the ELBE Postdoctoral Fellowships, a fully funded postdoctoral program for independent researchers with their own research proposal.

ELBE fellows are encouraged to pursue interdisciplinary projects in systems biology, theoretical biophysics, computational biology, mathematics in the life sciences, computer science, and machine learning applied to biological systems. Fellows may affiliate freely with groups at CSBD and collaborate closely with scientists at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS), and Technische Universität Dresden (TUD).

The positions are located in Dresden, Germany, within an internationally connected research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure. CSBD highlights strong cross-disciplinary collaboration and an outstanding research ecosystem across the DRESDEN-concept network.

Eligible candidates are outstanding external applicants at postdoctoral level with backgrounds in physics, computer science, mathematics, or related areas. In exceptional cases, analytically minded experimentalists in cell or developmental biology may also be considered if they work at the interface of a CSBD research group and a lab. A PhD or equivalent is required, and good English is expected.

The fellowship provides fully funded appointments lasting 2 to 3 years. Travel costs for the selection symposium in Dresden will be supported by CSBD. Applications are reviewed on the basis of scientific merit, and the program operates with two application cycles per year.

The application deadline is 11 September 2026. Short-listed candidates should be prepared to attend a selection symposium in Dresden on 3 November 2026. Applicants should use the CSBD postdoc application webpage for full instructions.
