About this position

PhD opportunity in immune therapy research at Fundación para la Investigación Médica Aplicada (FIMA), CIMA Universidad de Navarra, Spain.

The Immune Therapies group led by Dr. Juan R. Rodriguez-Madoz is recruiting a highly motivated PhD researcher for a 4-year FPI fellowship within the project Engineering HLA-Independent Nanobody-redirected T cells as a novel therapeutic strategy for Multiple Myeloma (HINT4MM). The project is funded through the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICIU) 2025 R&D grant PID2025-173188OB-I00 and is focused on developing HLA-independent sdAb-based T cell (HINT) receptors for innovative therapies in multiple myeloma.

This position offers full funding, integration into a consolidated and multidisciplinary research group, and access to state-of-the-art facilities. The team has extensive expertise in adoptive cell therapy against cancer, including the development and characterization of advanced CAR-T approaches, implementation for clinical use, and investigation of the molecular mechanisms underlying therapeutic responses and resistance.

The successful candidate will take part in a broad training programme spanning molecular and cellular studies in human and mouse multiple myeloma models, genome editing, gene expression, signaling and functional assays, studies with patient-derived samples, and the development and evaluation of engineered T-cell targeted therapies. The project also includes use of multiomics technologies and interpretation of preclinical molecular data, together with scientific writing and presentation at national and international conferences.

Eligibility and preferences: applicants should hold a master’s degree or equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field. A strong interest in cancer biology, molecular biology, and translational research is expected; prior experience in molecular and cellular biology is desirable. Good English communication skills are required, along with motivation, critical thinking, organisational ability, and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a team. Eligibility for an FPI predoctoral fellowship is mandatory.

Location: Pamplona, Navarra, Spain, at CIMA Universidad de Navarra / FIMA.
