About this position
The Centre de recherche en Philosophie at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral position within the EOS project Responses to Newton’s Mathematical-Experimental Paradigm in 18th-Century Philosophy (RENEW18).
The successful candidate will conduct an independent postdoctoral subproject aligned with the project’s focus on developments and debates in eighteenth-century philosophy, especially those connected to the impact of Newton’s mathematical-experimental paradigm. The position is supervised by Prof. Arnaud Pelletier and is based at ULB’s Campus Solbosch in Brussels, Belgium.
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to contribute to the wider research environment by participating in team meetings, talks, workshops, and conferences. The working language of the consortium is English. The fellowship is intended for researchers in international mobility who have not resided in Belgium during the last 12 months, although candidates already in Belgium may apply for a short-term contract depending on seniority.
Funding includes an approximate gross monthly fellowship of 4,600 EUR (around 3,180 EUR net), together with training opportunities, social and health benefits, office space, and a research budget. The appointment is for 12 months, with a preferred start date of 1 January 2027 or earlier.
Eligibility highlights include an outstanding PhD thesis in the history of modern philosophy by the start date, strong publication record, excellent written and spoken English, and a collaborative approach. Depending on the project, French, Latin, or knowledge of the history and philosophy of science may also be required.
