Stockholm University’s Department of Chemistry is offering fully funded PhD and postdoctoral positions in the Rivero-Crespo Lab, focusing on the interface of organic chemistry, materials science, and catalysis. The research group, led by Assistant Professor Miguel Rivero-Crespo, is dedicated to advancing sustainable organic chemistry through the development and application of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and heterogeneous catalysis. The PhD project centers on the synthesis and characterization of multifunctional MOFs for catalytic applications, particularly in multicatalysis involving aerobic oxidations and other transformations. The postdoctoral project, funded by the Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability (WISE), emphasizes the design of sustainable chemical processes using advanced porous materials as heterogeneous catalysts.

Both positions are highly interdisciplinary, combining organic chemistry, materials science, and catalysis, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and minimizing environmental impact. The group’s research aims to develop more efficient catalysts, reduce energy and resource consumption, and decrease waste generation in chemical production. The lab offers a dynamic, international environment with access to state-of-the-art research infrastructure and opportunities for collaboration within the WISE network and beyond.

Eligibility: PhD applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., organic chemistry), with at least 240 ECTS credits (including 60 at the advanced level) and a completed independent project of at least 30 ECTS. Postdoc applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, preferably awarded within the last three years, with demonstrated experience in synthesis and characterization of porous materials, catalysis, and organic/materials chemistry. Both roles require strong analytical and creative skills, initiative, independence, teamwork, and proficiency in English.

Funding: Both positions are fully funded. The PhD is supported by the Swedish Research Council for four years, and the postdoc is funded for two years (with possible extension) by WISE. Both offer full-time employment and competitive salaries.
