PhD and Postdoc Positions in Sustainable Organic Chemistry and Materials Science at Stockholm University

The Rivero-Crespo Lab at Stockholm University is recruiting for fully funded PhD and postdoctoral positions in the field of sustainable organic chemistry and materials science. The research group, based in the Department of Organic Chemistry, focuses on the interface between organic chemistry and materials science, with a strong emphasis on catalysis and sustainability. The group is particularly interested in the synthesis and characterization of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and their application as heterogeneous catalysts for organic reactions, including multicatalysis and aerobic oxidations. The research aims to develop more efficient catalysts, minimize energy and resource use, and reduce waste and environmental impact from chemical production. The PhD position is a four-year, full-time appointment funded by the Swedish Research Council. The successful candidate will work on the synthesis and characterization of multifunctional MOFs, study their catalytic activity in organic reactions, and perform in-situ and operando investigations. The project is highly interdisciplinary, combining organic chemistry, materials science, and catalysis, with sustainability as a central theme. Applicants must have a master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field, with at least 240 ECTS credits (including 60 at the advanced level) and a completed independent project of at least 30 ECTS in a relevant subject. Selection criteria include subject knowledge, analytical and creative thinking, initiative, independence, collaboration skills, and proficiency in English. The postdoctoral position is a two-year, full-time appointment funded by the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE). The postdoc will work on the synthesis of porous materials (MOFs) with catalytically active sites for use as heterogeneous catalysts in organic synthesis. The project is multidisciplinary, combining organic chemistry, materials science, and catalysis, with the goal of developing sustainable chemical processes and minimizing byproduct formation. Applicants must have a completed PhD in a relevant field, preferably within the last three years, with expertise in synthesis and characterization of porous materials, catalysis, and organic/materials chemistry. Additional criteria include scientific skill, communication skills in English, creativity, independence, and teamwork. Both positions offer a dynamic and international research environment, access to state-of-the-art facilities, and opportunities for professional development. The group is committed to diversity, equal opportunity, and fostering a supportive academic community. Stockholm University is located in the National City Park, with excellent connections to the city center. Application deadlines are January 20, 2026 for the PhD position and January 11, 2026 for the postdoc. Interested candidates should apply online via the Stockholm University recruitment system, submitting a personal letter, CV, and all required documents as specified in the application form. Fully Funded PhD and Postdoc Positions in Organic Chemistry and Materials Science at Stockholm University

Stockholm University’s Department of Chemistry is offering fully funded PhD and postdoctoral positions in the Rivero-Crespo Lab, focusing on the interface of organic chemistry, materials science, and catalysis. The research group, led by Assistant Professor Miguel Rivero-Crespo, is dedicated to advancing sustainable organic chemistry through the development and application of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and heterogeneous catalysis. The PhD project centers on the synthesis and characterization of multifunctional MOFs for catalytic applications, particularly in multicatalysis involving aerobic oxidations and other transformations. The postdoctoral project, funded by the Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability (WISE), emphasizes the design of sustainable chemical processes using advanced porous materials as heterogeneous catalysts. Both positions are highly interdisciplinary, combining organic chemistry, materials science, and catalysis, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and minimizing environmental impact. The group’s research aims to develop more efficient catalysts, reduce energy and resource consumption, and decrease waste generation in chemical production. The lab offers a dynamic, international environment with access to state-of-the-art research infrastructure and opportunities for collaboration within the WISE network and beyond. Eligibility: PhD applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., organic chemistry), with at least 240 ECTS credits (including 60 at the advanced level) and a completed independent project of at least 30 ECTS. Postdoc applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, preferably awarded within the last three years, with demonstrated experience in synthesis and characterization of porous materials, catalysis, and organic/materials chemistry. Both roles require strong analytical and creative skills, initiative, independence, teamwork, and proficiency in English. Funding: Both positions are fully funded. The PhD is supported by the Swedish Research Council for four years, and the postdoc is funded for two years (with possible extension) by WISE. Both offer full-time employment and competitive salaries. Application: Apply online via the Stockholm University recruitment system using the provided links. Submit a personal letter, CV, and all required documents as specified. Deadlines: 2026-01-20 (PhD), 2026-01-11 (postdoc). For more information, visit the Rivero-Crespo Lab and the WISE initiative .
