About this position

University College London is advertising a fully funded 3-year PhD studentship in the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Transplantation for a project titled AI and Structural Bioinformatics for Predicting Pathogen-Host Protein Interactions.

This opportunity sits at the intersection of computational biology, structural biology, machine learning, AI, and infectious disease research. The project aims to develop next-generation computational methods to identify pathogen-host protein-protein interactions by integrating machine learning, structural bioinformatics, and large-scale biological data analysis.

The successful PhD candidate will work in a collaborative and supportive multidisciplinary environment at UCL and receive training in AI, machine learning, structural bioinformatics, scientific programming, and high-performance computing.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must meet UK Home fee status requirements and should have, or expect to obtain, a First or Upper Second-Class (2:1) Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in a relevant subject. Programming experience in Python or a similar language and familiarity with Linux/Unix are highly desirable; experience in machine learning/AI is an advantage.

Funding: the studentship is fully funded for 3 years, with a non-taxable annual stipend of £24,643 and Home-rate tuition fees covered.

Deadline: 12 July 2026.

How to apply: use the application link provided in the post and follow the UCL job page instructions. Informal enquiries may be directed to Gorka Lasso.
