About this position

Antje Stoehr at the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL) is recruiting a fully funded PhD student for the Speech & Bilingualism research group in Donostia–San Sebastián, Spain.

The doctoral project is part of a new AEI-funded study on how auditory processing precision contributes to individual differences in foreign language pronunciation. The research can be shaped toward acoustic-phonetic and behavioural methods, an EEG-focused neurocognitive direction, or a combination of both approaches.

The position is designed for a candidate interested in speech perception, bilingualism, phonetics, language learning, and related experimental methods. The successful student will join an international and interdisciplinary team, receive close methodological training, and have opportunities to attend conferences and summer schools. A research stay with one of the project’s international collaborators may also be possible.

Funding: fully funded for four years.

Location: BCBL, Donostia–San Sebastián, Spain.

Start date: flexible between 1 January and 30 April 2027.

Deadline: 8 November 2026.

Interested candidates should review the full information and application details at the linked page and apply before the deadline.
