Fully funded PhD opportunity in Civil Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Sustainability at Lamar University in the United States.

The position is in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and is supervised by Dr. Haoran Li, an incoming assistant professor at Lamar University and postdoctoral researcher at MIT. The project sits at the intersection of smart infrastructure, AI/ML, climate resilience, digital twins, and sustainable construction.

Research interests include: infrastructure performance prediction using AI and big data; life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) for facilities; digital twin systems for monitoring and managing infrastructure; climate-resilient infrastructure design; AI/ML-powered physical models; sustainable materials; and low-carbon building strategies.

Funding: full tuition fee waiver, stipend, and additional academic benefits.

Eligibility: applicants should have a bachelor's or master's degree preferably in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related specialization. A strong academic record, research interest, and good English language skills are required. Preferred skills include Python, MATLAB, R, PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, ABAQUS, ANSYS, and experience in publishing scientific papers.
