The position is in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and is supervised by
Dr. Haoran Li
, an incoming assistant professor at Lamar University and postdoctoral researcher at MIT. The project sits at the intersection of smart infrastructure, AI/ML, climate resilience, digital twins, and sustainable construction.
Research interests include:
infrastructure performance prediction using AI and big data; life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) for facilities; digital twin systems for monitoring and managing infrastructure; climate-resilient infrastructure design; AI/ML-powered physical models; sustainable materials; and low-carbon building strategies.
Funding:
full tuition fee waiver, stipend, and additional academic benefits.
Eligibility:
applicants should have a bachelor's or master's degree preferably in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related specialization. A strong academic record, research interest, and good English language skills are required. Preferred skills include Python, MATLAB, R, PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, ABAQUS, ANSYS, and experience in publishing scientific papers.
