The student will collaborate closely with chemistry researchers and with a second PhD candidate working on thermodynamic modelling, cryogenic process development, and the upstream CO₂ capture system. The final stage involves integrating the reactor with the wider capture and cryogenic energy storage system and evaluating the complete process under representative conditions.

Funding: fully funded for four years. The award includes a stipend of €25,000 per year, €6,000 per year toward postgraduate fees, and a project budget for equipment, materials, computing, and conference participation.

Eligibility: applicants should have or expect a minimum 2.1 honours degree or international equivalent in chemical engineering, process engineering, bioprocess engineering, mechanical engineering with relevant process/reactor experience, chemistry with substantial reaction engineering/process-development experience, or a closely related discipline. A master’s degree is helpful but not required. Strong quantitative skills, interest in experimental systems, and experience with modelling/software such as MATLAB, Python, Aspen Plus, gPROMS, or COMSOL are advantageous.
