About this position
Maynooth University’s Department of Chemistry is advertising a fully funded PhD in coarse-grained and mesoscale modelling of polymer-hybrid anion-exchange membranes for electrochemical energy applications. Eligibility is aimed at applicants with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science/Engineering, Computational Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field, with a strong academic record. Experience in molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo, coarse-grained simulation, LAMMPS, DL_MESO, data analysis, or machine learning is desirable. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the programme’s English language requirements.

What's required
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science/Engineering, Computational Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with a First Class or high Second Class Honours (2.1) degree or equivalent. A strong background in computational materials science, chemistry, or physics is required, along with experience or strong aptitude for scientific programming and numerical data analysis. Desirable experience includes molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo, coarse-grained simulations, data-driven or machine-learning approaches, scientific simulation software such as LAMMPS or DL_MESO, research outputs, and strong written and oral English communication skills. Non-native English speakers must provide evidence of English proficiency per Maynooth University requirements.
