About this position
The Williams Erosion and Sediment Transport (WEST) Laboratory at the University of Iowa and IIHR—Hydroscience and Engineering is recruiting for a fully funded PhD position in environmental hydraulics starting in Fall 2026.
The project will focus on experimental and computational research in local scour, with strong connections to civil engineering, environmental engineering, sediment transport, river mechanics, and open-channel flow. The WEST Lab’s broader research includes hydraulic engineering, physical hydraulic modelling, scour and erosion, turbulence, and flow measurement.
The successful student will be co-supervised by Priscilla Williams and Dr. George Constantinescu. The post is especially suitable for applicants interested in experimental hydraulics, flume testing, Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), and computational fluid dynamics.
Eligibility: a Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required. Experience in experimental hydraulics, flow measurement, and CFD is preferred. International applications are welcome.
Funding: the position is fully funded.
How to apply: qualified candidates should email a CV/resume to [email protected]. Applications are reviewed as they are submitted, so early contact is recommended.
