About this position

Fully funded PhD opportunity in iridium organometallic chemistry for photodynamic therapy at CNRS – Université de Toulouse, hosted in the Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination (LCC) within the Medicinal Chemistry & Biology for Oncology team.

The project focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and biological evaluation of iridium complexes designed as photosensitizers for cancer-related phototherapy. Research topics include N-heterocyclic carbenes, organometallic synthesis, structural characterization, photophysical measurements, ROS production, and biological assays. The work sits at the chemistry–biology interface and has relevance for oncology, antibacterial, and antiparasitic applications.

Supervisors: Céline Deraeve and Heinz Gornitzka.

Funding: 36-month doctoral contract, fully funded. The thesis is scheduled to start on 2026-10-01.

Eligibility highlights: Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, or a related field; strong experience in organic synthesis; good knowledge of analytical techniques such as NMR, MS, and chromatography; interest in biomedical applications and interdisciplinary research.

How to apply: Prepare a detailed CV, cover letter, reference contacts, and transcripts (M1 or equivalent; M2 if available). Submit the application to the supervisors using the contact emails provided in the post.
