About this position
Fully funded PhD opportunity in Privacy in Agentic AI with CNRS / Inria, France, starting Fall 2026.
The project focuses on privacy evaluation and enforcement in agentic AI systems, especially LLM-based agents that act autonomously on behalf of users in settings such as travel planning, e-commerce, healthcare, and code generation. The research addresses how sensitive user data can flow through perception, planning, and action stages, and how it may be leaked, misused, or extracted by malicious or compromised components.
The PhD will be co-supervised by Sonia Ben Mokhtar (CNRS, LIRIS, Lyon), Raouf Kerkouche (Inria Lille), and Mohamed Maouche (Inria Lyon). The work has two main directions: (1) building a risk assessment toolbox to evaluate privacy risks on the client side (such as re-identification risk of user data/intent) and on the server side (such as sensitivity of action plans and trustworthiness of invoked tools/APIs); and (2) designing privacy-enhancing technologies including anonymization, confidential computing, and privacy proxies to protect user data across the agentic pipeline.
Applicants should have a Master's degree or final-year MSc in Computer Science, with a strong background in machine learning and/or NLP and/or security/privacy, plus good programming skills. Prior research experience is welcome but not mandatory. The team is looking for a self-motivated student interested in impactful research and publication in top-tier AI/ML and Security & Privacy venues.
