About this position

Florida Atlantic University’s SCUBA Lab in the Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering is recruiting PhD students for Fall 2026. The lab, led by Pratik Mukherjee (Assistant Professor of Robotics), focuses on robotics, autonomous systems, nonlinear and optimal control, multi-robot systems, distributed autonomy, and learning-enabled control for robotics.

These are multiple fully funded PhD positions, with tuition + stipend provided. Students will have access to state-of-the-art experimental facilities and will work on cutting-edge problems at the intersection of control, AI, and real-world robotic systems. The lab’s broader research includes multi-robot topology control, machine learning for scaling robot teams, and real-world robotic applications such as agriculture, search and rescue, and safe autonomy.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a closely related field. The post also asks for demonstrated research experience with peer-reviewed publications in robotics and/or control, plus strong written and verbal communication skills.

How to apply: email your CV to [email protected], and optionally include a brief statement of research interests. The post notes that GRE and application fee waivers may be available for exceptional candidates.
