About this position

Incoming Assistant Professor Anuruddha Bhattacharjee will join the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering beginning Fall 2026.

He is recruiting 1–2 fully funded PhD students in Mechanical Engineering for Fall 2026 or Fall 2027. The research program sits at the intersection of robotics and healthcare, with a focus on developing wireless and miniaturized robotic systems for minimally invasive diagnosis, therapy, and intervention.

Research areas include robotic design and dynamics, perception and state estimation, and control and autonomy, with the goal of creating intelligent robotic systems that can safely navigate and operate in complex physiological environments.

Students with backgrounds in mechanical engineering, robotics, electrical engineering, controls, biomedical engineering, or related fields are encouraged to reach out. Prior research experience or a master’s degree is a plus.
