About this position

A fully funded PhD studentship is available in the NanoElectronic Device Group at the London Centre for Nanotechnology, University College London (UCL), supported by the EPSRC Landscape Award (UELA). The research project centers on the development of resistive memories (memristors) using semiconductor-insulator structures derived from controlled oxidation of 2D layered semiconductors. The aim is to advance neuromorphic computing, leveraging memristor-based devices to achieve low energy consumption, fast switching, environmental stability, and multi-state programmability. These features are crucial for next-generation computational efficiency and AI applications.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant research environment, collaborating with the group of Prof. Tony Kenyon and other postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers. The project involves designing, fabricating, and testing new resistive memory devices and integrated circuits, with applications in image recognition and neural network hardware.

Applicants should have a strong academic background in nanotechnology, semiconductor physics, or related fields, and demonstrate motivation for research in nanoelectronics. The studentship covers tuition and stipend for UK/home students, with possible consideration for international applicants. Application deadline is 5th January 2026. For more details and to apply, visit the UCL project catalogue and the NanoElectronic Devices Group website.
