About this position

A fully funded PhD studentship is available at Trinity College Dublin in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, working with the AM Healy Research Group on the BIOFABRICATE project. The project title is Integrated Bio-based Innovations for Sustainable Manufacturing, Construction, and Pharmaceutical Applications from Irish Forest Biomass, and it is part of a wider multi-institutional programme led by the University of Galway with partners including TCD, Technological University Dublin, Atlantic Technological University, Dublin City University, Teagasc, and industry collaborators.

The research sits at the intersection of pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical technology, materials science, chemical engineering, and environmental science. The project aims to develop and validate advanced bio-based materials and technologies from Irish forest biomass for applications in engineered timber construction, manufacturing, food packaging, and pharmaceuticals.

This is a full-time, fixed-term PhD position for up to four years. Funding includes PhD tuition fees and a tax-free stipend of €25,000 per annum, subject to satisfactory progress. The expected start date is 1 September 2026.
