About this position

The project focuses on tumour-initiating states, preneoplastic cell states, epigenetics, chromatin organisation, and gene regulation. Possible methods include mammalian cell culture, molecular and cell biology, genetic perturbation, imaging, epigenetic and chromatin profiling, early tumorigenesis models, and potentially genomic/single-cell approaches with computational support.

This is a fully funded PhD studentship. Applications are welcome from UK and overseas students. Candidates should have, or expect to obtain, a First or Upper Second Class degree in a relevant subject, ideally with prior laboratory research experience. Experience in cancer or ageing models, microscopy, chromatin assays, or bioinformatics is advantageous but not essential.

What's required

Applicants should be recent graduates or final-year undergraduates with a First or Upper Second Class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject from a recognised university worldwide. Previous hands-on laboratory research experience is highly desirable, and experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, microscopy, genetic manipulation, chromatin or epigenetic assays, cancer or ageing model systems, or computational/bioinformatics work would be advantageous. Strong interest in mechanistic biology and experimental cancer research is expected.
