About this position

Funded graduate student positions are available at the Bioproducts Discovery and Development Centre (BDDC), University of Guelph, College of Engineering, Ontario, Canada. The openings include Ph.D., M.A.Sc., and M.A.Sc. leading to Ph.D. options, with a tentative start date of Winter 2027 for domestic students and Summer/Fall 2027 for international students.

The research team is led by Prof. Manju Misra and Prof. Amar Mohanty. The group is seeking motivated students interested in polymer science, materials science, chemical engineering, and mechanical engineering, especially in areas such as polymer and composite processing, blown and cast film extrusion, twin screw extrusion, injection and compression molding, thermoforming, biocomposites and natural fiber composites, sustainable and circular plastics, biodegradable flexible packaging films, plastic additive manufacturing (FDM and SLS), polymer modification and blending, recyclability and biodegradability studies, agro-forestry waste valorization, and AI/machine learning for materials optimization.

Eligibility highlights include a strong academic background in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, or related disciplines, with a minimum CGPA of 8.5/10.0, 85%, or 3.5/4.0. For Ph.D. applicants, a master's degree in an engineering discipline is required. For M.A.Sc. applicants, a B.Sc. in engineering is mandatory. Prior research experience in polymer processing/characterization, biocomposites, analysis, or AI is an asset, and publications in peer-reviewed journals are strongly preferred. English proficiency is expected (IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent), with typical minimums of IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 89.

To apply, send your CV, cover letter, transcripts, and English proficiency certificate (if available) to [email protected]. More details are available on the BDDC website linked in the post.
