About this position

The University of Reading is inviting applications for 12 BBSRC-funded PhD projects as part of the FoodBioSystems Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP). These interdisciplinary projects focus on various aspects of the AgriFood system, including agriculture, biological sciences, chemistry, food and nutritional science, geography, environmental science, and pharmacy. The FoodBioSystems DTP brings together seven leading UK universities to develop a diverse cohort of scientists and innovators equipped to address challenges in sustainability, efficiency, and safety of food systems, deliver better nutrition, and strengthen health and economic resilience.

Successful applicants will join a vibrant research community and benefit from innovative training across the agri-food-nutrition chain. The DTP is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, recruiting a diverse cohort and providing excellent support for doctoral researchers. Funding is provided by the BBSRC, covering tuition fees and a stipend for living expenses. The projects are designed to foster advanced technical capability and food systems understanding, preparing graduates for impactful careers in academia, industry, and beyond.

Applicants should have a strong academic background in relevant fields and demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary research and EDI values. The application process involves browsing available projects, reviewing requirements, and submitting materials online. The deadline for applications is August 1, 2026.
