About this position
PhD Assistantship at the University of Connecticut in freshwater ecosystem ecology and biogeochemistry.
The Helton and Lawrence lab groups are seeking a motivated PhD student to join an interdisciplinary project on how beaver-created ecosystems in the Northeastern United States influence freshwater carbon cycling.
The student will work as a Graduate Assistant with funding of about $38,000/year. Research activities include field work in ponds, wetlands, and streams to quantify greenhouse gas dynamics, ecosystem metabolism, and carbon stocks, plus development of watershed-scale models of beaver-created ecosystem carbon dynamics.
Required background includes an undergraduate degree in a related field, at least one year of post-baccalaureate research experience, fieldwork experience, interest and experience in biogeochemistry, and strong oral and written communication skills. Two or more years of post-baccalaureate research experience or an MS degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
To apply, email Ashley Helton at [email protected] by 2026-09-01 with the subject line “PhD Application Beaver Project.” Include a statement of research interests and a CV with relevant professional experience and three references. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
