About this position
PhD position at the University of Connecticut in the Helton & Lawrence Lab Groups.
The project focuses on freshwater ecosystem ecology and biogeochemistry, with an interdisciplinary emphasis on how beaver-created ecosystems in the Northeastern United States affect freshwater carbon cycling. The work includes field research to quantify greenhouse gas dynamics, ecosystem metabolism, and carbon stocks in ponds, wetlands, and streams, plus the opportunity to develop watershed-scale models of beaver-created ecosystem carbon dynamics.
This is a Graduate Assistant position with funding of about $38,000 per year.
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in a related field, at least 1 year of post-baccalaureate research experience, fieldwork experience, interest and experience in biogeochemistry, and strong oral and written communication skills. Two or more years of post-baccalaureate research experience or an MS in a related field is strongly preferred.
Deadline: September 1, 2026. To apply, email Ashley Helton with a statement of research interests, a CV, and contact information for 3 references. Use the subject line “PhD Application Beaver Project.”
