About this position

PhD candidate in Structural Glycoproteomics at Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen, Netherlands.

This PhD project sits in the area of mass spectrometry, glycobiology, glycoproteomics, informatics, and chemometrics. The work focuses on pushing high-end mass spectrometry hardware and software beyond current limits to develop structural glycoproteomics approaches for translational research. The project uses patient samples and models with defined genetic and/or biochemical defects to improve diagnosis, disease monitoring, and understanding of disease mechanisms.

The position is part of BioBeyond_NL, a project within the NWO National Roadmap for Large Scale Research Infrastructures. You will collaborate with academic and industrial partners to help establish a national infrastructure for biological information beyond the genetic code. The team includes mass spectrometrists, glycobiologists, and computational experts, and the department has a strong interdisciplinary and international environment.

Eligibility highlights: MSc in Chemistry, Molecular Life Sciences, or a related field; hands-on mass spectrometry experience; chemometrics and Python/informatics skills; strong theoretical background in molecular and cell biology; experience in glycoproteomics or glycomics is a plus. The role also expects strong English communication, independent experimental work, data analysis, manuscript writing, and willingness to supervise students and present at meetings.

Funding and contract: fixed-term PhD contract for 4 years, salary scale 10A (€3,217–€4,077). Additional benefits include holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, travel reimbursement, public transport reimbursement, and home-working allowance.
