About this position
Hasselt University’s Brain, Exercise and Muscle Research Group is seeking outstanding PhD candidate(s) for an FWO PhD Fellowship application (Fundamental Research) for 2027.
The project sits at the intersection of muscle physiology, resistance training, exercise physiology, and healthy ageing, with a particular focus on older adults. The research aims to study dose–response relationships in resistance training and their effects on muscle force–velocity characteristics, combining ex vivo assessments of muscle tissue structure and function with in vivo measurements of muscle oxygenation, electrical activity, and force generation.
The position is especially relevant for candidates with a background in Movement or Rehabilitation Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or related fields, and for those interested in mechanistic muscle research with clinical relevance. The team emphasizes multidisciplinary supervision, access to specialized infrastructure at UHasselt, and international collaboration.
This is not a pre-funded PhD position. Instead, the selected candidate will work with the supervisors to prepare a competitive FWO PhD Fellowship proposal for 2027. Funding depends on successful FWO selection, and no financial compensation is provided for the application-preparation phase.
Applicants should have an excellent academic record, relevant research experience, strong motivation for PhD study, and good communication skills in English and Dutch. The application deadline is 30 November 2026, and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online interview in December 2026.
To apply, submit a CV, motivation letter, degree certificates, and academic transcripts through the provided application link, and review the FWO eligibility criteria before applying.
