About this position

PhD fellowship at the University of Oslo in chromatin, spatial genome organization, gene regulation, and computational biology.

The project is based in the Division of Biochemistry, Department of Molecular Medicine, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, and is part of the Collas Lab. It investigates how mutations in nuclear lamins affect epigenomic mechanisms, 3D genome organization, and lipodystrophies / associated metabolic diseases using patient-derived cells.

You will do both wet-lab 3D genomics and advanced computational analysis, working with datasets such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, and protein interactome data. The model system is the in vitro differentiation of adipose tissue stem cells into adipocytes. The project is interdisciplinary and includes collaboration with the Danish Cancer Institute in Copenhagen, with an opportunity for a research stay there.

Eligibility highlights: Master’s degree or equivalent in chromatin/genome biology, minimum grade B (ECTS) or equivalent, with a thesis of at least 30 ECTS; programming skills in Python, R, or similar; experience in bioinformatic analysis of genomic data; strong English communication skills. Experience with 3D chromatin conformation capture methods and electronic lab notebook systems is a plus.

Funding: 100% funded 3-year PhD fellowship with salary in the range NOK 550,800–595,000. The post is fixed-term and includes standard Norwegian public-sector benefits.

Deadline: 16 October 2026. Apply through Jobbnorge with a cover letter, CV, transcripts/certificates, publication list, and three references.
