About this position
PhD fellowship in spatial genome organization and gene regulation at the University of Oslo. This 3-year, 100% PhD position is based in the Division of Biochemistry, Department of Molecular Medicine, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo (UiO), and is part of an interdisciplinary project in chromatin and computational biology.
The project investigates epigenomic mechanisms by which mutations in nuclear lamins affect spatial genome organization and contribute to lipodystrophies and associated metabolic diseases. The work combines wet-lab 3D genomics experiments with advanced computational analysis of multi-omics datasets, including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, and protein interactome data. The model system involves in vitro differentiation of adipose tissue stem cells into adipocytes.
The successful candidate will join a cross-disciplinary team of cell biologists and bioinformaticians in an active, international research environment. A research stay in Copenhagen with collaborators at the Danish Cancer Institute is possible.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in chromatin/genome biology with at least grade B (ECTS) or equivalent, and the degree must include a thesis of at least 30 ECTS. Required skills include Python, R, or similar scientific programming languages, experience in bioinformatic analysis of genomic data, and strong English communication skills. Experience with 3D chromatin conformation capture methods and electronic laboratory notebook systems is considered an advantage.
Funding: the fellowship is salaried, with a stated range of NOK 550,800–595,000 depending on competence and experience. Standard public-sector benefits are offered.
Application: submit the application via Jobbnorge and include a motivation letter, CV, educational certificates and transcripts, a publication list, and three references. If you studied in Norway, retrieve your results from Vitnemålsportalen; otherwise upload transcripts in English or a Scandinavian language. Deadline: 16 October 2026.
