About this position
PhD fellowship in Computational Pharmacology and Data Science at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, connected to the Center for Pharmaceutical Data Science Education (CPDSE).
The project focuses on GPCR dynamics, drug responses, molecular dynamics simulations, machine learning, bioinformatics, computational biology, and computational chemistry. The main model system is the dopamine D2 receptor, and the work will combine atomistic MD simulations with biophysical descriptors and predictive ML approaches for ligand- and variant-specific pharmacological outcomes.
Supervision is by Associate Professor Alexander Hauser. The position is based in Copenhagen and includes research, PhD coursework, teaching/dissemination, manuscript writing, and participation in active research environments, with a stay at another research team preferably abroad.
This is a three-year PhD fellowship with salary and pension according to Danish state academic agreements; the monthly salary starts at approximately 34,700 DKK plus pension depending on seniority.
Eligibility highlights: a relevant master’s degree or equivalent is required; strong Python/GitHub skills, statistical analysis and/or machine learning experience, knowledge of protein structure and molecular interactions, and excellent English communication are emphasized. Experience with GPCRs or membrane proteins is an advantage.
Deadline: 26 September 2026, 23:59 CEST. Apply online through the university portal and upload the required documents in PDF format.

What's required
Applicants should have a relevant academic degree at master's level or equivalent in a subject area such as bioinformatics, computational biology, or computational chemistry. For Danish degrees, admission requires a relevant Master’s degree (180 ECTS BSc + 120 ECTS MSc). For foreign degrees, applicants must have a degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree, or at minimum a bachelor’s degree equivalent to a Danish bachelor’s degree and be academically qualified at master’s level. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and ambitious bioinformatician, data scientist, or machine learning specialist with experience in molecular modelling, molecular dynamics simulations and/or analysis of molecular simulation data, strong Python programming and GitHub versioning skills, statistical analysis and/or machine-learning methods, knowledge of protein structure and structural bioinformatics or molecular interactions, and strong written and spoken English with good communication and collaboration skills. Experience with GPCRs or membrane proteins is an advantage.
How to apply
Apply electronically via the university’s Apply now portal. Submit a motivated letter, CV, certified MSc diploma and transcript (with English translation if needed), publication list if possible, and optional references/recommendations. Ensure the application is in English and submitted before the deadline.
