About this position

PhD fellowship at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, with close collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy. The project is centered on protein dynamics, protein chemistry, structural biology, mass spectrometry, and HDX-MS, with additional biophysical approaches such as DSF, SAXS, and radioligand binding to study ligand binding, conformational states, oligomerization, and structure-function relationships in a calcium-sensing protein relevant to neuronal signalling and drug discovery.

The fellowship is supervised by Professor Petrine Wellendorph (principal supervisor), Professor Kasper D. Rand (principal co-supervisor), and Associate Professor Annette E. Langkilde. The position is a three-year PhD and is funded by a larger project grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Salary is stated to start at approximately 31,800 DKK per month plus pension, depending on seniority.

Eligibility highlights include a relevant Master’s degree or equivalent, strong experimental skills, good English, preferably Danish, and an interest in collaborative interdisciplinary research. Preferred experience includes protein chemistry, mass spectrometry, data analysis, and especially HDX-MS. The role also includes PhD coursework, research dissemination, teaching undergraduate students, and a research stay at another team, preferably abroad.

Application deadline: 2026-11-01. Apply online and upload a motivation letter, CV, diploma and transcript, publication list if available, and references/recommendations if available.

What's required

Applicants must have a relevant academic degree within the project area, typically a Master’s degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (or, for foreign education, at least a bachelor’s degree equivalent to a Danish bachelor’s degree plus academic qualification at master’s level). The successful candidate should be experimentally oriented with a strong interest in protein chemistry, structural biology, mass spectrometry and bioanalytical science, and a good understanding of biochemistry and pharmacology is an advantage. Experience with protein chemistry, mass spectrometry, data analysis, and especially HDX-MS is preferred. Candidates should have a curious mindset, strong collaboration and communication skills, good English skills, and preferably Danish. Relevant work experience, publications, GPA, and other professional activities are considered.

How to apply

Apply electronically via the Apply Now portal and submit the required PDF documents in English. Include a motivation letter, CV, certified diploma and transcript (with English translation if needed), publication list if possible, and references/recommendations if possible.
