About this position
Postdoctoral opportunity at Columbia University in New York City, United States focused on cryo-EM, cryo-ET, malaria parasite membrane protein complexes, and host-pathogen membrane remodeling.
The Ho Lab in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to study how the malarial moving junction complex assembles and remodels membranes during parasite invasion of human red blood cells.
The project combines conditional parasite genetics, biochemistry, biophysics, single-particle cryo-EM, and in situ cryo-ET to investigate AMA1-RON complexes and their oligomerization into the moving junction ring. The lab highlights access to state-of-the-art electron microscopy infrastructure, including Titan Krios microscopes, a Gatan BioQuantum energy filter, Gatan K3 direct detector, Aquilos cryo-FIB/SEM, Leica cryo-correlative fluorescence microscope, and Glacios screening microscope.
Eligibility highlights include a PhD in molecular parasitology, biochemistry, biophysics, or structural biology; a strong background in at least two relevant areas; and at least one first-author peer-reviewed publication. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and attention to detail are also required.
To apply, email a CV, three references, and a cover letter to Dr. Chi-Min Ho at [email protected]. The deadline is 22 Oct 2026.
