About this position
PhD fellowship in solid state pharmacy at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Copenhagen.
This three-year PhD project focuses on amorphous drug formulation, amorphous engineering, and the stabilization/confinement of amorphous forms of poorly water-soluble drugs in biocompatible particles. The research combines experimental characterization with computational modelling to study amorphous variability, polyamorphs, solubility enhancement, and physical stability without additional excipients.
The project is hosted by the Pharmaceuticals, Products and Processes (3P) research group, an internationally collaborative team working on solid-state pharmaceutical systems, crystalline-to-amorphous transformations, rheology, and pharmaceutical processing. The department’s broader research spans pharmaceutical technology and formulation, drug delivery, advanced drug analysis, and clinical/social pharmacy.
Eligibility highlights: applicants need a master’s degree related to the subject area (for example solid-state pharmacy, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or drug formulation) equivalent to a Danish two-year master’s degree. Strong candidates will have a background in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, materials science, or a closely related field, plus good physical chemistry/solid-state knowledge, strong data interpretation skills, interest in interdisciplinary research, and excellent English communication. Experience with DSC, PXRD, IR spectroscopy, solid-state NMR, programming (Python/MATLAB), or computational modelling is an advantage.
Funding and terms: this is a full-time PhD fellowship for 3 years. Salary, pension, and employment conditions follow the Danish academic agreement; the post states a starting monthly salary of about 31,600 DKK plus pension (depending on seniority).
Application window: submit the application online by 7 August 2026, 23:59 CET. Required documents include a motivation letter, CV, certified MSc diploma and transcript, publication list if possible, and references/recommendations if possible. The application must be submitted in English.
Supervisor: Associate Professor Inês Catarina Batista Martins (principal supervisor). Contact emails listed in the post include ines.martins@sund.ku.dk and marianne.joergensen@sund.ku.dk.
