SDU CREATE at the University of Southern Denmark is inviting applications for a PhD position in 3D Concrete Printing for Low-Carbon Buildings. The candidate will work on AI-driven pipelines linking geometry generation, structural evaluation, fabrication planning, and robotic production, and will also contribute to laboratory experimentation, full-scale robotic printing, and structural testing of components and demonstrators.

Research themes include 3D concrete printing, toolpath generation, sensing-based process control, reinforcement integration, structural connections, prefabrication, and quantitative evaluation of embodied carbon, material consumption, structural performance, and production efficiency. The position is embedded in SDU CREATE’s interdisciplinary environment, which includes advanced facilities for robotic fabrication, additive manufacturing, mixed reality, and structural/mechanical testing.

Applicants should hold a relevant master’s degree in architecture, civil or architectural engineering, or a related field. Strong skills in Grasshopper and Rhino are required, while Python, C#, finite element analysis, teaching experience, and publications are considered advantageous. The role also involves teaching support in MSc and BSc programmes, co-supervision, and collaboration with academic and industrial partners.

This is a 3-year salaried PhD position with a monthly gross salary of 37,075 DKK including pension, with possible salary progression based on experience. The application deadline is 2026-09-15. Applicants must submit the full application package in English through the SDU portal.
