About this position

PhD opportunity in Additive Manufacturing for Space Applications at the University of Padova, within the CerAMglass research group led by Prof. Giorgia Franchin.

The project is newly funded and supported by the Italian Space Agency (ASI). It focuses on the development of additive manufacturing materials and technologies for future lunar construction, combining In Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU), advanced sustainable materials, additive manufacturing, and space exploration.

Research activities include developing, testing, and characterizing innovative materials and manufacturing processes for space applications, contributing to experimental equipment design and research methodologies, and working at the interface of materials science, manufacturing, and space engineering.

Eligibility highlights: MSc graduates or students graduating by October 2026 are encouraged to apply. Applicants with backgrounds in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Industrial Engineering are especially welcome. The PhD position will be advertised from 21 July in the PhD Programme in Industrial Engineering – Materials Curriculum at the University of Padova, and the selected candidate is expected to start on 1 November.
