About this position
PhD position in Angular Momentum of Magnons at CEA-IRIG / SPINTEC in Grenoble, France.
This project sits at the intersection of physics, solid state physics, and quantum mechanics, with a strong experimental focus on magnons, spin-wave spectroscopy, orbital angular momentum, and NV-center microscopy. The student will work on a home-built scanning NV microscope optimized for spin-wave spectroscopy and contribute to research on hidden azimuthal modes and the development of a high-performance orbital-angular-momentum transducer between photons, magnons, and phonons.
The post is a PhD opening and is supported through Horizon Europe – COFUND. The gross salary before tax deduction is 2400€/month. The work is full-time and based in Grenoble, with one position available.
Eligibility and requirements: applicants should hold a Master 2 or equivalent in Solid State Physics, Quantum Physics, or Applied Physics. Strong hands-on instrumentation skills are especially valued, including the ability to design, build, and troubleshoot experimental setups. Helpful experience includes microwave engineering, confocal microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Python programming, and hardware electronics such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or FPGA. Excellent English is required.
Mobility rule: applicants must satisfy the EU MSCA mobility criterion and must not have spent more than 12 months in France during the last three years (between 15 March 2023 and 16 March 2026), excluding holidays.
Deadline: 7 September 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Paris).
How to apply: send your application by email to [email protected] and follow the application portal/instructions on the PhD Quantum Grenoble website. The post also references an application form overview PDF.
