About this position
PhD opportunity at Monash University Malaysia in an interdisciplinary project on aptamer-based biosensing for monitoring nanoplastic and biotoxin co-exposure as a human exposome surveillance platform.
The project aims to address a major gap in exposome research by developing a continuous biosensing platform that can detect and quantify nanoplastics and biotoxins directly in the human microenvironment. The work involves aptamer selection and validation (SELEX), binding kinetics analysis, optimisation of a gold nanoparticle lateral flow assay (LFA), multiplex detection, and benchmarking against LC-MS/MS and ICP-MS reference standards. The system will also be tested for cross-reactivity and selectivity in biological matrices such as saliva and urine.
This is a funded PhD project. Successful applicants will receive the Graduate Research Excellence Scholarship (GRES), which includes a full tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend for up to 3 years 6 months.
Eligibility: applicants should have at least First Class Honours (H1) or equivalent recognised by Monash University Malaysia, and must meet the English language requirements.
Supervision: main supervisor Dr. Michelle Yap Khai Khun, with associate supervisors Dr. Ong Huey Fang, Dr. Krystle Angelique Santiago, and Dr. Faddrine Jang.
How to apply: first contact the main supervisor with your academic background and achievements to confirm fit. If suitable, submit your application via the project application link on the webpage and use the same research topic title. Check the application submission guide and scholarship/course information before applying.
Location: Subang Jaya, Malaysia.
