About this position
PhD opportunity at Monash University Malaysia in Subang Jaya, Malaysia on an aptamer-based biosensing platform for monitoring nanoplastic and biotoxin co-exposure as a human exposome surveillance platform.
The project sits at the intersection of analytical chemistry, environmental science, toxicology, bioinformatics, and related biosensing research. The work will develop a continuous biosensing system using aptamers functionalised on a gold nanoparticle lateral flow assay (LFA). It includes SELEX selection and validation, binding kinetics measurement, multiplex assay optimisation, and benchmarking against LC-MS/MS and ICP-MS. The platform will be tested for selectivity and cross-reactivity in biological matrices such as saliva and urine, with the broader aim of supporting human exposome surveillance and science-to-policy translation.
Supervisor: Dr. Michelle Yap Khai Khun (Monash University). Associate supervisors: Dr. Ong Huey Fang, Dr. Krystle Angelique Santiago, and Dr. Faddrine Jang.
Funding: Graduate Research Excellence Scholarship (GRES), including a full tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend for up to 3 years 6 months.
Eligibility: First Class Honours (H1) or equivalent recognised by Monash University Malaysia, plus English language requirements.
